About

WASZP foiling in Canada

Canada is one of the newer sailing nations to enter the world of WASZP sailing. There are events planned across the country, including the Canadian Championships and the North American Championships in Nova Scotia and the Americas are being held in Kingston this year.

The Canadian WASZP Association spans the entire country and has representation in the Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario and BC. Through WeCANFoil, there are Racehubs across the country.

The Canadian WASZP class has representation across the entire age range. The junior (U20) and youth (20-25) divisions are naturally enthusiastic and hotly contested. The WASZP_X will only increase the boat’s popularity for youngsters, who now have a genuine foiling pathway from 11 or 12 years old right up to SailGP. The apprentice group (26-39) come from a range of previous classes and backgrounds and includes club sailors and former national squad sailors. The masters (40-49) and super-masters (50+) sectors of the fleet are becoming increasingly popular and competitive, both on the water and in the bar.

The fleet has some of the best female representation for a mixed singlehanded class and the class is actively taking steps to increase the number of women on the circuit.
